In the past few years, hundreds of accounts of Jewish girls lured by Arab boys, following them blindly, have accumulated. The Arabs introduce themselves with Jewish sounding names, and the girls believe that are Jews. When they discover the true identity of their friends, the way out is blocked in many instances. For these gullible girls, it is too late.
Many of these girls are religious, and met the Arabs during the course of their Sherut Leumi ( volunteer National Service); tens of Rebbetzins decided to turn to them with a request and a warning: Do not enter into such a relationship. The end is always bitter.
"Dear Sister." The Rebbetzins wrote to the young girls, reminding them that "you are a Bat Melech (daughter of the King), you are a member of the Chosen Nation, a holy and precious People, and the Nation of the Kings of Kings."
Next came the warning: "There are many Arab workers who use Jewish names. Yousuf becomes Yossi, Samir turns into Sammy, and Abed becomes Ami. They try to be charming and give you all the attention in the world. They know how to act like gentlemen, act as though they really care about you, and compliment you. However, this fine behavior is temporary. The moment that you are in their villages, under their control, it all changes."
The Rebbetzins remind the girls of the tragic experiences that have accumulated from others that have made this mistake, and suffered for it. "You can ask the tens of girls who have ′been there, done that.′ They can attest to the fact that it is all lies and bluff. From the moment you arrive in the village, your life will never be the same. The attention you craved will be replaced by curses, beatings, and humiliation. Should you wish to leave the village, it will become even more difficult. They will not let you; they will follow you and run after you. They will not let you return home."
The Rebbetzins remind the girls about the hardships that the Jewish Nation endured in the struggle to maintain our integrity and heritage. "Your grandmothers could not have fathomed that one of their progeny would do something that would endanger the continuity of their family link in the eternal and golden Jewish chain."
The letter concludes with a glimpse into the future, concerning the children of girls who might err and be lured into a relationship with Arabs: "For your sake, and for the sake of the future generations, and to spare you of insurmountable pain and tragedy, we turn to you with a plea, a prayer and a request: don′t befriend or date non- Jews, don′t work where non- Jews are employed, and don′t do Sherut Leumi with non-Jews."
The Rebbetzins signed the letter with ahavas Yisroel-love of fellow Jews.
