Purim is a joyous time where drinking (among men) until one cannot recognize the cursed one, Haman, from the blessed one, Mordechai, has been a custom. With this, comes the responsibility of drinking. Here's a pledge that Chaim Shapiro has designed for Jewish organizations to implement before the holiday. The text reads below. The file can be downloaded here. Pass it to your Jewish organization (shul, school, kiruv outlets) to ensure responsible drinking while celebrating Purim. In the community where I used to live (in Israel), it is not something to look forward to having crowds of drunken young adults hogging the playgrounds and parks and streets during the day (and night) of Purim. It makes for unsafe delivery of Shalach Manos for those who walk or drive. There wasn't enough police force to go around to combat this in my old community.
